Wissahickon Charter School
Uniform Policy / Dress Code
The Board of Trustees has approved a Uniform and Dress Code policy. The uniform is quite simple but will provide the school with a cohesive look as well as satisfy many of the concerns expressed by parents. TOPS The uniform will consist of three solid color options of shirt (shirt is defined as polo-type shirt, sweater, sweatshirt, turtleneck, or T-shirt). The school colors that may be used are forest green, maroon, and blue (preferably navy but for those that have obtained light blue since our inception year, it will be acceptable). Shirts must be solid color and may not have logos, pictures, stripes, or words. The school has contracted with a uniform provider for your convenience in obtaining appropriate uniform clothing (information available at the school). While we encourage purchase of the school logo, we are considerate of cost and will not require the logo to be mandatory. BOTTOMS Pants, skirts, jumpers, skorts, and knee-length shorts (weather permitting) will be either beige khakis or jeans. Skirts may not restrict movement by either excessive length or shortness. Leggings and tights in the school colors are permitted in appropriate school colors. Jeans may not have writing, and they may not be torn or ripped. SWEATERS, VESTS, AND SWEATSHIRTS Any of the above items that are worn have to be a school color. Jean jackets and other tops that students wear to cover uniforms are not permitted. Students who wear sweaters, vests, or sweatshirts that are not school colors will have to take them off. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. SHOES AND SOCKS All children must wear socks. There is, however, no color design or length restriction for socks. Closed shoes and sneakers are acceptable. Sandals with backs are acceptable but must be worn with socks, and they must be closed in the front. There are no color restrictions on shoes. The following are not permitted: slip-on shoes (e.g., clogs), platform shoes, and shoes with more than a one-inch heel. GYM UNIFORM Students are expected to come to gym prepared. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts in the school colors are the required uniform on gym days. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, and t-shirts must be the same color (e.g., maroon shirt must be worn with maroon pants). JEWELRY Stud earrings and watches are acceptable. Necklaces, chains, and rings are acceptable within limits as long as they do not pose a hazard or create a distraction to learning. Hoop earrings are not acceptable for safety reasons. The school is not responsible for misplaced / lost jewelry. OTHER ACCESSORIES Hats and headscarves are not permitted in classrooms. Hair accessories are acceptable as long as they do not pose a hazard. No “chopsticks” may be used as hair holders. HAIR There are no restrictions regarding hairstyles. UNIFORM SUPPORT The Wissahickon Charter School WPP has information for parents that may not be able to acquire a school uniform. Sign up for membership to obtain information. CONSEQUENCES Any student who attends school without the proper uniform will be considered unprepared, and a parent, guardian, or designee will be required to either pick the student up or bring the student a proper uniform. The student will not be permitted to attend classes until he/she has the proper uniform. These consequences and the uniform policy will be strictly enforced. |
